Using Israel As A Smokescreen To Obfuscate The Treachery Of Pashinyan

Israel Complicit in Artsakh War

By Prof. Z. S. Andrew Demirdjian, Los Angeles, 7 November 2022

===================================

To the average observer of the Armenian political landscape since the “Velvet Revolution” of 2018, and all the geopolitical changes that shaped the realities of Armenia four years later, the statements made in the article by Prof. Demirdjian seem extremely naive, to the point where one wonders if the distinguished Professor is not out of touch with the realities of international politics.

By any stretch of imagination I am not a person attempting to whitewash The State of Israel, or the decisions made by key political actors who determined that forging an alliance with Petro Dictator Aliyev is more beneficial to the protection of the national interests of Israel.

What I am categorically against is the distortion of truth, and the drastic effort to marginalize the fact that, Aliyev emerged triumphant from the 44-day War, by buying the docile cooperation of an Armenian born with the soul of a Turk (Pashinoglu) who served him Artsakh on a silver platter, by masterminding and executing an “Engineered Defeat”.

Prof. Demirdjian points out that the “Knesset has decided it’s legal for Israel to sell weapons to Azerbaijan” and then asks the following question:But is it moral to do so?”

In all North American academic institutions, Pol. Sc. students, with the first 101 course on international politics, are hammered with the notion that International Relations, and more specifically Realpolitik is an “AMORAL” game played by state and non-state actors to protect vested interests. Realpolitik is a game where you have no permanent enemies, no permanent friends, only permanent interests to protect.

So, a person who has a realistic understanding of international relations should never ask the question if a decision made within the jurisdiction of The Israeli Knesset is moral. The Knesset does not convene to debate issues related to moral philosophy. First and foremost, the Knesset is committed to the survival of The State of Israel, at any cost, including the exposure of all neighbouring countries or nations to all kinds of injustices, as long as institutional mechanisms can control the narrative that the harsh immoral measures are adopted to neutralize a danger detrimental to the survival of The State of Israel.

Prof. Demirdjian contends that “Most Israelis who oppose Israel’s support of Azerbaijan find the Israeli government guilty on moral grounds.” Unfortunately, most Israelis who have the courage to condemn the measures adopted by the Israeli Government, are not a significant majority, and no matter how morally valid their objection is, at the end of the day they will fail to introduce any change that may extend any form of benefit to Armenian national interests.

Prof. Demirdjian, after playing the role of judge, jury, and executioner announces the verdict that: “The righteous Jews should force their blasphemous leaders who do not follow their own holy books to stop the killing of innocent people for the sake of economic gain.” I hope prior to writing the following statement, Prof. Demirdjian made an inventory of how many times, blasphemous Christian Western leaders, undermined the key moral principles promoted in the “New Testament” to betray Armenia and support the Ottoman Empire/Turkey/Azerbaijan, from 1878 to the present.

Again, I am not surprised by the convergence of national interests of Israel and Azerbaijan. But I am dismayed by the deliberate attempts to lay the blame of the disastrous defeat at the doorstep of Israel, to create a smokescreen behind which you bury the well known fact that Armenian treachery secured victory for Aliyev, not the drones or the UAVs sold by Israel to Azerbaijan.

Armenian treachery started well before Shushi was surrendered to the enemy and the Trilateral Capitulation Agreement of November 09, 2020 was signed. It started when the hand picked Defense Minister of PM Pashinoglu declined an Israeli offer to sell to Armenia the very same drones purchased by Aliyev. Why did he decline the Israeli offer? The following is his personal explanation: “We refused, because we did not see it necessarya passenger bus could be damaged from a grenade launcher, there was no need to buy attack drones for it."

https://armedia.am/eng/news/32549/davit-tonoyan-armenia-plans-to-purchase-modern-weapons.html

The brilliant Armenian version of Klemens von Metternich, Mr. Tonoyan, assumed that Azerbaijan will exclusively use its drone fleet to attack Armenian buses moving civilians or soldiers to the war zone. It did not cross his mind that Azerbaijan’s primary goal will be to control the entire air space of Artsakh, followed by a systematic targeting of artillery positions protecting the strategic heights of the contact line, and only sophisticated drones acquired by Armenia, well ahead of any enemy campaign, can stop the advance of Azeri tanks and “Special Forces” units leading the assault on Armenian positions.

The list of the treacherous moves can fill volumes, but due to time and space restraints, I will reiterate one more time that Pashinoglu made a deliberate decision to fight the war with obsolete weapons, because he strongly believed that only a painful defeat will convince the Armenian population that Artsakh is a heavy burden on Armenia, and the time has come to return Artsakh to Azerbaijani territorial sovereignty. He did, what the Azerbaijani Agent was paid to do; betray his own country.
