Naive Disillusioned Philanthropist or Sinister Globalist (Soros Part II)

 

In part I of our article, we emphasized the point that Mr. Soros did not achieve much in concrete terms, despite more than three decades of focused activism to promote notions such as “Globalism”, “ Open Society”, and “Europe as The Prototype” of establishing equitable and transparent political systems in third world countries.

In South Africa, corruption is as bad as the year (1979) he started pouring millions of dollars to prepare a well educated elite willing to implement the principles of “Open Society”. Four decades later, South Africa’s record in fighting corruption and eradicating crushing poverty, is less than impressive.

 In his native country Hungary, he was vilified for every difficulty encountered by the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban who did not hesitate to label him and the organizations receiving funding from Soros “Enemy Number One”. Accused of meddling into the internal affairs of Hungary, and determined on turning Hungary into a wasteland flooded by barbaric refugees, PM Orban issued orders to shut down the offices of every organization affiliated with Soros except the Central European University in Budapest.

In multiple statements, punctuated with strong anti-Semitism, PM Orban argued that Hungary is fighting "… an enemy that is different from us. Not open but hiding. Not straightforward but crafty. Not honest but unprincipled. Not national but international. Does not believe in working but speculates with money. Does not have its own homeland but feels it owns the whole world."  

In England, where Soros sought refuge following the communist takeover of Hungary (1947), he is hated for destroying the British Pound (Black Wednesday) in September 1992, earning in the process $1 billion dollars, and the ill repute of being the shrewd speculator who “broke the Bank of England”. Though his views on “Globalization” remained highly tolerated in England, and the British political establishment believed for decades during the “Cold War”, that a strong Western Europe is needed to contain US and Soviet intrigues, London finally gave up on “Globalist Europe” on January 31, 2020 (Brexit) to chart an independent future for England, away from the European Bloc, based on the dictates of its own unique national interests.

In The United States where he currently resides, and where his fortune grew exponentially since he left England in the 1960s, the conservative right often accuses him of being a sinister capitalist mesmerized by Europe, ready to destroy the supremacy of America on the international scene to satisfy his greed. Heavily involved in precipitating the financial meltdown of the US economy in 2008, Soros took advantage of the loosely regulated “Hedge Funds” he controls to destroy financial institutions such as Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. 

The “bogeyman” of the far right, Soros, unabated by a greed that sent seismic shocks throughout the economies of many countries, forced The US Federal Reserve and Treasury to pour trillions of dollars into bailout packages designed to contain the meltdown of the economy, due to Machiavellian plans concocted by a few billionaires who brought America to the edge of a disaster that would have surpassed the horrors of the “Great Depression” America witnessed in the late 1920s.

If most of us believed up until 2008 that democracy is a system where the government of the people, is by the people, and for the people, Soros and a cabal of billionaires forced the government of the people to use the revenues of The State collected from the people, to finance the survival of a handful of billionaires who cared more about their personal fortune rather than the people.

Inadvertently, with the 2008 financial crisis, Soros undermined the most fundamental principle of an “Open Society”-the commitment to defend human dignity. If human dignity requires a set of moral rules and legal imperatives to treat all human beings as equals worthy of acquiring basic needs, the crisis he and other greedy financiers precipitated, took away from millions of Americans their humble dwellings. Many ended up in tents under bridges and parks, simply because with foreclosures they lost all their savings, their jobs, and the possibility to move to a rental unit.

The dreams Soros promoted via his books and the multitude of organizations dedicated to the principle of an “Open Society” where capitalism functions with a humanistic orientation, were proven to be nothing short of a chimera by 2008. Many experts believe that the only prospect for such dreams to become a tangible reality, requires the direct involvement of governments to regulate strictly the world economy with the clear intent of preventing the emergence of billionaires like Soros, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Gates, etc…via a more equitable taxation system that does not favor the uberwealthy at the expense of the average wage earner.

In Armenia, Soros is often dehumanized and demonized for a “Velvet Revolution” spearheaded by Nikol Pashinyan but masterminded by the Open Society Foundation of Armenia (OSFA). The revolution not only failed to end corruption, but precipitated via a series of tragic miscalculations the most shameful event in the history of the new Republic-the capitulation of November 09, 2020 following a bloody 44-day war in Artsakh that claimed the lives of 6000 Armenian soldiers and civilians.

Contrary to the assertions of many sources in Armenia promoting “Conspiracy Theories” (CT) revolving around the activities of the OSFA, a list published in 2019 proved beyond a reasonable doubt that many of the opposition groups and public figures closely associated with the “Old Guard”, received significant grants from OSFA and benefited from the largesse of Soros.

An article titled “Who Are “Soros’s Men” in Armenia?”  summarizes very eloquently the ironies of OSFA’s activities in Armenia.  It points out that “Many Republican MPs, as well as Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer Hayk Alumyan and others have received funds from the same organization [OSFA]. After the publication of these lists, a question arises as who are “George Soros’s men” in Armenia. Apparently everyone!”

If every public figure in Armenia is on the pay list of Soros, what are the benefits of focusing our attention on conspiracy theories (CT), supposedly protecting the collective wellbeing of Armenia by exposing the schemes of a billionaire, who will eventually go to the graveyard disillusioned with ideas that he vehemently tried to defend for decades with billions of dollars?

The benefits of CTs to the national interests of Armenia are non-existent. The harms inflicted on our collective survival are many, simply because conspiracy theories create a smoke screen designed to hide the nefarious activities of another billionaire named Mark  Zuckerberg, who runs an empire known as FaceBook.

FaceBook is a social media platform born out of a Harvard University dorm room Zuckerberg shared with friends back in 2004. Harvard is also the academic environment where Zuckerberg attracted the attention of In-Q-Tel, a venture capital firm established in 1999 by former CIA Director George Tenet.

In-Q-Tel invested millions of dollars in FaceBook when the CIA realized the invaluable contribution Zuckerberg’s social platform can deliver to the information collection dimension of CIA’s activities. Today, FaceBook knows more than the CIA about every Armenian who has a FaceBook account. And FaceBook will be used to meddle in the upcoming elections of June 20, 2021 in Armenia.
